Can the net be your friend?

Did you ever wonder why the net is there on a tennis court? Of course you never did. It has always just been there
.
Well it is to stop low flying tennis balls. You say you know that. Well if you know that why don’t you stop hitting the ball into the net? If you were to count the balls you hit into the net and the balls you hit out you would be very surprised. You hit almost twice as many balls into the net as you hit out. I know you don’t believe this, but it is true.

Stand at the baseline and look at the opponent’s court. You don’t see any of the court over the top of the net, do you? You have to look through the net to see the court. Now get down on your knees and look. Pretty high isn’t it. Actually it is quite high. It is big time in the way.

Here is another thing about the net. The net is the first problem your shot has to overcome. The second problem is getting the ball to come down inside the court. So get the ball up first, and solve getting it to come down second. Get the ball over the net!

So why is the Net your friend? Because you now know why the net is there, and your opponent doesn’t. Your “friend” the “net” will catch all of your opponent’s dumb low shots. Isn’t that great?
